Our Roots

Gemini Industries, Inc. was started by William H. Smith in December 1964. Bill had one 165-gallon tub and one machine to make lacquer and no customers. He was the batch maker, the business development manager, the delivery person, and everything in between.

Through Bill’s diligent work, and later, the involvement of his son, Michael Smith, the business evolved and grew by focusing on making an array of beautiful wood coatings. Since those humble beginnings, Gemini Industries, Inc. became 100% employee-owned in 2003 and evolved from a local business to an international supplier.

A Culture of Family

Today, Gemini Industries, Inc. has a strong team of more than 185 employee-owners, nine brands, a network of seven manufacturing and supply locations and two centrally-located manufacturing, shipping and laboratory facilities. However, the Smith’s original family values, tenacity and teamwork mentality were never outgrown. Gemini Industries, Inc. is a catalyst for employee-owners to proudly impact Gemini’s bottom line, creating opportunity, shared wealth, and ultimately a legacy for every family.
